Here's a riddle for you... what do you get when you mix a beautiful sunny day, College & Careers, rakes and grass? Nice guess... but no, you get TAKE-A-RAKE... hello! Those who showed up were very eager to rake, and what a great day did God provide us! It was a fun time doing service for God by raking lawns in our community.
The day started off with everyone meeting at Leo Delvallano Park on Pine Street and heading off to Birch Street South, where we would rake lawns. The first house we visited, the lady seemed quite excited that we wanted to rake her lawn... and for free! We had a very efficient team of workers who were quite territorial at times... "Don't rake my turf" yelled Steph at Mary. Mary replied to this outburst "Take off eh, this is my turf!" as she held THE MOTHER rake... Despite "weapon-in-hand", Steph jumped Mary resulting in a scuffle on the lawn, and both received grass stains on their pants... that'll teach you not to fight over grass! (get it, fight OVER grass! haha) Okay, no, that didn't happen at all... but I had you going right?
During the morning, we ended up raking 6 lawns, and all homeowners seemed to be quite happy with our willingness to rake their lawn. That may seem like a low number, however some of these lawns were big, and it is hard work raking lawns! Two homeowners wanted to pay us for our time, however we refused since we weren't doing this for the money. The homeowners insisted, and we ended up taking the money, and put it towards some 2-4-1 Pizza. So hey, God definitely provided lunch for us... and it's funny how when you earn lunch it tastes oh-so-much-better! I dunno, maybe our stomachs were doing the talking? But none the less, it was a great way to end off a productive day in service for God!
Thanks to all those who participated in this outreach event... we'll definitely have to do it again... maybe raking leaves in the Fall?! sounds like fun... then we can make a huge pile and jump in them!
